Welcome, Shorty!
Look at this handsome new feline we attracted…

After much deliberation in the cat living rooms at the new Richmond SPCA, I came back to the original room where I found Matt with cats surrounding him like he was giving out free catnip. We finally agreed upon one of the cats surrounding Matt with duck feet and 1/2 of a tail. For Matt, it was love at first meow.
In the height of march madness, the day after VCU’s huge victory over Duke (haha…losers), Matt had a chance to shoot a basket at the SPCA to win $10 off the adoption fee, which he made! We’ve got our own star athlete right here at 608 N. 24th St.
On the way home from the SPCA, our new found love Shorty managed to score a basket on his own, leaving a smelly present in his box and marking a trail of celebration in his new home. Matt, like a good father, did what fathers have to do sometimes, and wiped his ass.

Grant has already addressed our entertainment for the weekend in his post below. But in this digital world, 100011101011001, you can’t tell a story without the media to support it. So today, I will take you on a digital journey through Larry Mathews’ nasal passages!
What had happened was (in sequence):
- Larry fell asleep in the music room.
- I began setting up the recording equipment.
- Diana, the opportunist that she is, grabbed her camera, snapped this all-inclusive picture:

- We began to roll the tape.
- We all relocated to the living room, to let magic happen.
Five easy steps, for a guaranteed laugh, every time you press play:

Update: don’t listen to this if you’re in a quiet environment. I just tried to listen at Captain Buzzy’s - had to stop halfway through because I could not stop laughing haha. Okay late!

Sandy’s mother came to town tonight (March 10) and when things lost momentum, we quickly resorted to archival media of dance parties, sexxxyback parties, and yule log fights to string our guests attention span along for a while. Listening to original rap songs by roomies still anonymous provided segway to stories of Woo Woo the Church hill Madame. Finally the dregs of boredom scraped away our last remaining remnants of inhibitions blocking our creativity. The level of our creativity reached its apex for the night when we recorded Larry Mathews’ Melodious snoring. As one roommate, DJ MORTRON, restated it, “Things start to get a little crazy around here at bedtime.”

My name is Grant Mathews. I am 6′1″ tall, I weigh 190 pounds, I have brown hair brown eyes and 5 Musical instruments. Which of these characteristics has nothing to do with who I am? Probably the instruments. Since moving into the most beautiful house in the City of Richmond, I have brought all of my instruments to live with me. They have sat, and collected dust, and on occasion been played. Not by me, but by my roomates and visitors. The irony is that i blame them for both my neglect of my instruments, (which i remained faithful to until living here) and for the music that has come to replace that which I would have tried to create. I know that it must be musical heresy to say that it is not worth trying to play to their level to fulfil my need for music, but I don’t instead I let them fill my life with the music that they choose to play and even create. because that is what makes me happy. To me it is not important where the music comes from, it is more important that it is there. It’s just a bonus that I am surrounded by such talented musicians.
I’m back to blugblugblog away
My dark cloud has lifted, and I’m ready to write. Lets see, things have been very interesting these days. On Wednesday, after unexpectedly getting off work early I was able to go watch Mermaid Skeletons play at Cafe Diem. I also found out this morning that I have been swept off my feet by a JT concert ticket provided by my bff’s (Matt and Diana, incase you wonder) and had a little fun with someones myspace..hahah got you back sucker! And its gardening time! I’m so excited I did some premature sprouting last saturday. I can’t wait to get off work and hang out with the coolest people in the world….hmm. I wonder who I’ll call.
In Person
So Matt has informed me that we’re stepping up our blog. I think this is a direct result of Tess finding out about our dirty little internet secret. This being said, I want to go ahead and state for the record that I am NOT in any way internet savvy. Every new post is literally an experiment, and hopefully, with time I will be able to at least stare blankly ahead and nod while someone (like Matt) tries to hold a conversation about URLs or plug-ins without them thinking I am a complete neanderthal.

I am feeling somewhat inspired lately, I think from attending so many artsy extra curricular activities over the past few weeks. Lots of good music and art. Of course David Shultz and the Skyline had their CD release party Saturday night. We went to the Big Art Show at Gallery 5 Sunday night because Beth and Harrison had work to sell. I bought one print and got one for free! Tuesday night I went to see Langley Holland at the Hyperlink, Wednesday the Mermaid Skeletonsplayed at Cafe Diem, and Thursday night we went to Maddie’s opening at the VCU Art building gallery (The Drawing Room?). All-in-all lots of fun. I also lined up Harrison to have a Window Installation at Quirk for September/October.
We’re all OK

Things have been quite busy around le household lately:
Grant has found his niche in renovating an original world-class Quinque (pronounced “KINKY” around these parts) scooter for Diana. There have been some breakdowns, and a withstanding cloud of white smoke (exhaust issues) surrounding our house, possibly giving nearby weed freaks the thought of stopping by and saying hello. A thought which quickly disappears in short-term memory loss. Hah! Diana and myself spent some time over the weekend watching Grant perform on the bike, and D gave it a paint job, which was in bad timing as torrential winds landed a nice earthy feel to the paint job. But it looks great now!

And there’s bad news - Blue, our beloved, beautiful cat, ran away. CHPN gave us a spotlight on their blog which has turned up some leads. Grant and myself went looking yesterday and got a good tip about a house where there are strays living. There is also a cat lady involved. No luck yet, but I wouldn’t doubt if someone like Lou (our homeless roommate) is using Blue for her endless entertainment involving anything that resembles string. I’m going to try to help Sandy make some signs tomorrow, written in both English and Catlish.
And then there’s the greatest news I could ever hope to provide! VCU Men’s Basketball has won the CAA Tournament and will now be advancing to the NCAA Tournament! I am sad to admit that I am the only one at 608 who attended the sold-out crowd at the Richmond Coliseum. Diana’s parents even went! The President was there. God was there. Otherwise George Mason would’ve won. But I understand people are busy, have real jobs, real lives, etc etc. But I got to rush the court, touch TJ Gwynn, scream at the top of my lungs for 2 straight minutes without having to stop for air, it was just the best way to end a season filled with excitement!

Oh and… I got bored last night. The result of which gave birth to the newest hit from DJ MORTRON - it’s called “Church Hill”, and you can download it HERE!

Blue is starting to freak me out. She has taken to following close behind each step I take with this incredibly menacing look in her eyes. One that says “Fuck your blog. I’m finishing this right now.”
I assure you, this is completely unprompted.
Sandy?
anyone?

Diana will not stop knitting. It’s become a problem:
Our living room has turned into a spiderweb of yarn.
I’ve done some things that should easily piss Sandy off:
- I ate almost all of the leftover italian pasta things she made.
- I hacked into her blog account and posted this blog. Haha!
But seriously, dinner was great the other night!
